no title

So yesterday in Graphic Novel our professor was out sick, so we had a substitute professor come in and do some writing and drawing exorcises with us.

First, we were told to write anything and everything that came to mind in five minutes. I wrote:

I hurt all over.
my feet.
my legs feel like prickly static
my wrists ache
my eyes are heavy and unfocused.
I feel ugly, useless
bothersome
so much of me
is so sad
totally self-loathing
hate
hate
hate
Divided into so many bits
and they all want something else
each whisper pulling me
in one direction
and the total opposite.

xD I'm such a fucking emo.

For the second assignment we were told to write about what is "in our pocket". Meant to be taken metaphorically or literally, it was our choice - another five minutes. I wrote:

There is nothing in my pocket. Some dirt, lint, I'm sure. Nothing of material value. Not even loose change.
But there are other pockets, perhaps, metaphorical pockets, if we want to go in that direction...
I might carry with me, in these pockets, a little bit of my mother's pride and endurance, my father's quick temper.. some other baggage.
My fear of men, my hate of woman, my over-all discomfort for mankind.
My love for relationships, my hope for things to feel better, the love of my dog.
Their love, unending, always changing.
Her otherworldly wisdom. Her truth, blatantly executed.
His virtue.
The strong woman, I have a little bit of them too - thick and tough.
The humble and passive sureness of the men.
Strong shadows, with a sense of humor.
Well loved.

For the third exercise we were asked to list five people, five places, and five activities. I listed:

People:
1. a medical doctor
2. a vigilante
3. a prince
4. a guardsman
5. a prostitute

Places:
1. a kitchen
2. a hovering city
3. an undersea community
4. a palace
5. a shanty town

Activities:
1. having just committed a murder
2. stealing priceless art
3. having sex in an elevator
4. going to the dentist
5. baking a cake

We were then asked to combine Person, Place and Activity # 1 and write for fifteen minutes. I wrote:

He felt in all senses of the phrase, terrible for what he had done.
Red hands trembling, he ran them under water frantically, trying to get it away, off his skin. The bowl of the sink stained tomato red. It lingered.
Audible bursts of frustration escaping him as he scrubbed, vigorously, vision blurring.
In his mind he repeated it to himself, "this had to be done, he knew too much, he knew too much, this had to be done - it was for his own good, he knew too much" over and over, harder and faster until he couldn't even stand and let himself fall to the cold linoleum like a child in a tantrum.

xD I don't get a lot done in fifteen minutes. For the second writing we were asked to keep the same person and location but change the activity to #5. We were allowed to keep it chronological, so I did. I wrote:

He mixed the sweet-smelling ingredients slowly. Staring in at the egg and sugar folding together into yellowy sludge. He couldn't keep the images away. So many sounds buzzing in his ears. A choke, a cry, a man's last breath. Chills ran up his legs to the back of his skull. Dry ingredients, mix them slowly, flour, cinnamon... focus.

Then last but not least we were asked to keep the same location and activity, but change the person to # 5. I wrote:

The party was in less than three hours, talk about cutting it close. She worked her heels to the grind in that kitchen making sure everything was perfect for the big moment - she was good like that, among other things she was good with spatula and knew her way around an oven like a pro. If life hadn't had a funny way of fucking you over, she'd be off the street and in a kitchen for good. For now it was nice to watch her pace the length of the counter in that tousled, frantic manner - throwing back her hair and licking the frosting from her fingertip when the job was done.

She also read us an excerpt from a story and asked us to write down snips that caught our attention. I wrote down:

teapot
excess
nails
nib
lemons
etc. etc.
rhyme or reason
pack up and go home
pebbles
chaos

It was interesting enough. Kind of makes me want to write again, I'm so rusty - . -;;

I've also been finding a lot of new music lately! I'm really excited. xD Liiike

Neon Trees - Animal
Ellie Goulding - Under the Sheets, Guns and Horses
Florence and the Machine - Cosmic Love
Little Boots - Remedy
Vocaloid(Luka) - Just be Friends

:3 My current favorite songs. ♥

  1. This sounds like a fascinating series of writing exercises.

I might have to take them...
