dream

I took a nap today after the open house. It was around 4:30pm-ish and I slept until about 8:00pm.  During the course of the nap I had quite a few dreams, but one that stood out to me the most was basically the first "nightmare" I'd had in a while. I base the "nightmare" status on rather or not I feel actual fear in the dream. Most of the time strange or scary things might be going on, but I don't feel that adrenaline rush of terror. When I do, I call the dream a nightmare.

During my nap I had this dream that I and a boy and girl couple who were in their early 20's where in the water in an arctic place. The vista was very blue toned, I remember it felt very artificial. The water was very cold, and we had to swim to a particular floating mat-like object to escape the cold. We were swimming as fast as we could while maintaining close contact with one another. The water was very dark to look down into so I tried to keep my eye on the other two, not the surroundings or the destination, but the people immediately in front of me.

There where times during the swim it felt like we were getting so cold we considered stopping and letting our bodies die but we only stopped for moments before regaining the power to push forward.
When we finally reached the floating mat the man and woman got up fairly easily but for some reason I was having trouble doing the same. I kept ordering them to help me up but they where too busy shaking trying to warm up.

It was then that I actually looked into the water and saw the silhouette of a shark. it was a large shark, but not outlandishly so, and it swam casually in an upward diagonal towards me as if drifting. I remember that the water was tinted a really deep magenta color, making the shark itself appear this pinkish-red color in the water. As it came closer I began to panic, yelling at the two to help me up, but at this point they just stared at me like they were transfixed on the prospect of witnessing my vicious bloody death by shark.

The shark came up to me and was practically nudging me with it's snout and all I could do was turn to it and face it. I could see it's open mouth, no teeth were distinctly visible, but the mouth was a gaping black hole.
It's mouth stayed lined up with my lower stomach for a long time before I woke up. The whole situation was scary like having a gun to your head - no immediate violence or pain, but the waiting... like I knew it might strike at any moment and it would be a critical hit, a bite you couldn't walk away from.
I woke up pretty startled, but not upset about it.

I edited this photo of a great white so that I could get the imagery out of my head and in some physical form. This is kind of how the shark looked, except the sunlight wasn't present and the water felt more murky than this more crystal-clear water... the upward angle was more important, so I chose this picture. The mouth was blacker than black, and like I said, the water was this kind of dark pink-ish color, still with the cobalt blue arctic setting. The floating mat was a tan-yellow color.

I'm not sure if dreams are symbolic and spiritual or not, or just deeply profound windows into your own mind. A kind of introspection your brain plays for you every night. I'm not sure, maybe it's meaningless, but they always feel like they're a message to me, so I'm going to try to record things I dream on this blog for others to maybe think about. I like to know if other people have had similar dreams, or if they might have some kind of interpretation for me - it's kinda fun. Questions pop up like, why was I the third wheel of this couple I've never met? What does the arctic setting mean? Why the show of endurance in the freezing water? I know I probably dreamed about the shark because before I took my nap I watched this video:

So it's pretty self-explainatory really..

No more monster videos before naptime.

Bedtime for me now actually. If I have any more crazy dreams I'll be sure to keep you updated. xD
